Professor of Oncology at the Montpellier medical university, Head of the Department of Oncologic Surgery at The Montpellier cancer Institute.
Pr Rouanet has a large activity in the field of Surgical Oncology particularly GI tumors and especially rectal carcinoma. 260 scientific papers and chapters have been published and presented at more than 500 meetings or seminars.
He is member of the European society of colo proctology, European Society of Surgical Oncology, European Society for Surgical Research and International society of university colon and rectal surgeons, promoted Chevalier de la Légion d’honneur in 2016.
He developed for a long time minimally invasive surgery for GI tumors and pelvic recurrence, first by laparoscopy then by robotic surgery. He published one of the first series of Trans anal TME performed by a proctoscope. His surgical team has operated more than 1500 patients by ROBOT of whom 900 rectal carcinoma.
Pr Rouanet is one of the founders of the French group of research for rectal carcinoma (GRECCAR) and conducted a lot of surgical trial (GRECCAR1, GRECCAR4 and GRECCAR14).
He is the principal investigator of the Prospective European trial RESET, endorsed by the ESCP, which has recruited 1300 patients in 10 European countries, early results recently published in Annals of Surgery.
