Dr. Yoshiro Itatani, M.D., Ph.D., FACS, is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Surgery at Kyoto University’s School of Medicine and is affiliated with the Division of Medical Equipment at Kyoto University Hospital in Japan. He earned his M.D. and Ph.D. from Kyoto University, along with a Master’s degree in Clinical Research from its School of Public Health.
Dr. Itatani has built an extensive academic and clinical career, including international research experience as a Post-Doctoral Scholar at the Moores Cancer Center, University of California, San Diego. Prior to his current role, he served as an Assistant Professor at Kyoto University Hospital and held multiple surgical positions in leading Japanese institutions, specializing in gastrointestinal and colorectal surgery.
A highly credentialed surgeon, Dr. Itatani is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a board-certified trainer in both gastroenterological and general surgery. He is also certified in advanced robotic surgical systems, including da Vinci, hinotori, and Hugo™ RAS. His contributions to surgical research and innovation have been recognized with numerous awards, including the Kyoto University Hospital Director’s Award and the Young Investigator of the Year honor from the Japanese Society of Gastrointestinal Surgery.
